At Advanced Dentistry of Long Island we love when our patients come in for their routine dental cleaning. It’s how we help prevent potential dental disasters but it’s also a way for us to catch up! Our patients are like family to us, and we truly care about everyone’s overall health and wellbeing.
ROUTINE DENTAL CLEANING PROCESS: WHAT TO EXPECT
What should you expect during your routine dental cleaning visit? First, you will be treated to a thorough one (1) hour teeth cleaning by one of our gentle and highly skilled dental hygienists. That wonderful feeling you have when your teeth are newly cleaned and polished? That’s our goal.
Next, we will perform a complete routine oral health exam. During this part of the dental visit, your mouth is gently and carefully examined. We are looking for problems that need to be immediately addressed and for anything that may cause difficulties for you in the future. You, the patient, are an important part of this process. Our goal is to help you avoid complicated and costly dental problems in the years to come.
In addition to a routine cleaning and the oral health exam process, part of your routine dental visit will be spent discussing how to properly care for your mouth at home. Many patients are surprised to discover that they have not been brushing and flossing properly. Don’t worry, we’ll show you how!
YOUR TEETH AND OVERALL HEALTH: THE CONNECTION
Did you know that the condition of your teeth and gums can be indicators of your overall health? There are a number of dangerous diseases such as osteoporosis and diabetes that often first show up in the mouth. We have helped many grateful patients get to the right professionals long before their first symptoms were detected.
In addition, an unwell mouth can actually contribute to serious ailments such as heart disease, and even make childbirth more complicated. Because your teeth play a role in your overall health, we highly recommend setting up your routine dental cleanings and exams quarterly, based on your current oral health.
Think of us as your family’s overall health and wellness team!
